What is back pain due to?
Back pain is common with some 80% of people tending to experience back pain or lower back pain at least some of the time. 85% experience disabling lower back pain at least once. At any given time 6.8% of the US adult population suffers from back pain episode lasting more than 2 weeks. ref: 4. This is because many things in our life place stresses on our body especially on our spine, ligaments, discs, muscles, joints etc and this can lead to misalignment, overstretching and irritation with resulting dysfunction and pain. The nerve-rich joints of each spinal bone are a common cause of back pain. If these vertebra and facet joints aren’t moving as they should, they can cause painful symptoms.
Between the spinal bones or vertebra we have the discs, fibrous tissue which acts as the shock absorbers for the spine. Trauma can cause the disc to bulge, tear or herniate putting pressure on the nerves causing lower back pain, back pain, shoulder pain, neck pain depending on the level of the disc bulge or damage.
Factors that contribute to back pain?

3. Lack of adequate exercise and poor fitness levels
