Regularly we are asked about chiropractic care for veteran affairs members. The good news is that all Australian DVA Gold Card holders and some white card holders are eligible for chiropractic care. At GFC we are pleased to provide quality care to DVA (Department of Veteran Affairs) members. Towards the end of this page is an extract from the Australian DVA fact sheet on who is eligible and how to get free chiropractic care for eligible DVD card holders.

Which DVA card holders are eligible for Chiropractic Care?
If you have a Repatriation Health Card – For All Conditions (Gold Card), the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) will pay for your chiropractic services, upon referral, to meet a clinical need caused by musculo-skeletal dysfunction.
If you have a Repatriation Health Card – For Specific Conditions (White Card), DVA will pay for chiropractic services, upon referral, to treat a condition caused by musculo-skeletal dysfunction. The treatment must meet a clinical need, and the condition must be:
· an ‘accepted’ disability, i.e. an injury or disease accepted by the Repatriation Commission as caused by war or service
· malignant cancer (neoplasia) whether war-caused or not
· pulmonary tuberculosis whether war-caused or not
· posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) whether war-caused or not or
· anxiety and/or depression whether war-caused or not,
if DVA has accepted responsibility for the treatment of these conditions.
How do I get access to DVA Chiropractic Care service?
You must be referred to a chiropractor who is participating in the arrangements between chiropractors and the Repatriation Commission.
The referral must come from one of the following:
· a Local Medical Officer (LMO)
· a General Practitioner
· a medical specialist
· a treating doctor in hospital
· a hospital discharge planner
· another chiropractor who has previously received a referral.
A referral remains active for 12 months from the date of referral. Referral dates cannot overlap from one 12-month period to the next.
