Painful, frozen or sore shoulders are a commonly seen problem at the chiropractic practice and there can be many reasons why these occur. The shoulder joint is the most moveable joint in the body and therefore it depends on many of the surrounding muscles for support and stability. As a result of the looseness in the joint, the muscles and joint of the shoulder may become restricted and painful due to overuse or tension.
Many people believe that chiropractic can only help spinal problems. This is not true! Many people are surprised to learn that pain in the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee or ankle can often be helped with Chiropractic care.
Sports chiropractors have completed extra education, and it is a specialty of chiropractic, which focuses on extremity problems (shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee or ankle) as well as spinal problems when joints lose their normal motion and position.
Sports people including AFL footballers, volleyball, netball and tennis-players seem to have many such shoulder related problems. Many sports require very repetitive shoulder action and hence their shoulders can benefit from sports chiropractic care. There are also those who have shoulder pain as a result of their job. People in an office environment commonly consult us with tight shoulder muscles and shoulder joint problems, and they usually respond to chiropractic management quickly and favourably, especially helping once keyboard or mouse position is ergonomically optimised.
Chiropractic care can restore movement to restricted joints in the extremities or the spine and help improve range of motion and decrease pain in these joints. It can also assist the muscles to work better and more efficiently by improving nervous control to these muscles by removing nervous interference in the spine.
Better movement + less pain = Increased performance at Sports and home.

SHOULDER “PROBLEM” TEST:
- Try to test the shoulder movement by keeping your elbows straight and palms facing down, lift your arms in front of you as far as you can reach; you should be able to raise them this way without pain or discomfort overhead.
- Now keeping your elbows straight and palms facing into your body, lift your arms sidewards away from your body as you can reach to the top; you should be able to raise them this way without pain or discomfort overhead.
