Simple Meditation Steps
There are many ways to meditate, but this way provides some very easy simple mediation steps to start off with.
- To meditate, first find a quite place where you are less likely to be disturbed.
- Set an alarm for ten minutes
- Sit (don’t lie down or you’ll likely fall asleep) comfortably in your quiet place
- Close your eyes
- Focus on your breathing, if you like, you can count breaths.
- What’s important is that you focus on keeping all thoughts from entering your mind. Try to be blank. At first you may find this difficult, but if you persevere you will get better at it – if I say ‘Do not think of a cow’, all you can think of is a cow!
- You may hear a car go past. Notice it and let it go. You may think of a birthday phone call you have to make. Notice it and let it go. You may think of something you’ve forgotten to do, or a fight you had with your wife/husband, or the shopping. Notice it and let it go.
- Keep noticing and keep letting go. The more you practice, the easier it will become.
Before you know it the 10 minutes would have passed, with repeat sessions as you get used to keeping a clear mind the quality of the meditation session should improve. Why not give it a try and see how you go.
