My Summary
I’ve walked the trail many times and marvel at the wonderful opportunity it provides to everyone to reflect on their lives and take positive steps to get on top of their issues, whatever they may be. It provides an amazing natural peaceful setting “back to nature, water, trees, grass, rocks, flowing river, birds, ducks”; where one can take the opportunity to peacefully renew spiritually and mentally.
If you live nearby or visit the area, consider walking the Spiritual Healing Trial and take the opportunity to reflect on your life, to let go of what’s beyond your control, to embrace what is within your control or circle of influence and to take the necessary positive steps to heal and improve your life.
Spiritual Healing Trail Map
Brief History of Darebin Park in Melbourne, Vic, Australia:
Darebin Parklands has a long rich history only some of which is known.
There are hidden treasures within the park including remnant orchards and crops that were grown on the fringe of a growing city during the mid-1800s. Even today the magnificent grove of ancient mulberry trees and some olive trees still exist.
A dairy farm, vineyard, quarry and tip site were all at times active industries within the bounds of the park, and clues of this can still be found if one knows where to look.
The Stated Aim of the Spiritual Self Healing Trail:
“The Spiritual Healing Trail is a gift from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community as a gesture of reconciliation. It’s aim is to promote good health through improving your emotional and spiritual well being and a sense of being connected to the land where we reside, to others and most importantly to ourselves. “
How does the trail work?
Grab an explanatory map from the web site see link below, or in the park at the trail start (near the dog walkers end of the Darebin Park, car park). I’ve included below some pictures of the relevant areas referred to in the map so you get a feel for how wonderful it all is and visit when you feel the need to get back to nature and renew.
The guide suggests “To get the best experience you must be prepared to take the time to reflect, unlock your problems and create positive space within. It is suggested that you take a bottle of water on your journey and prepare for the journey by drinking some water. The act of cleansing yourself can be likened to blessing yourself. It is also suggested that you have some link to the land, one way is to pick up a gum leaf to carry with you.” The walk with reflection can take an hour or more depending on how much reflection you choose to do, the trail itself can be walked briskly in 20 to 30 min.
