Tips to Staying Well
These general tips may be helpful for persons who suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder.
1. Physical Fitness:
If I’m fitter I will most likely deal with anxiety better.
Physical fitness is an important mediator of anxiety
A sound body and a sound mind
2. Good Food
Good nutritious food with lots of coloured fruit and vegetables is good for the body and the mind.
3. Activity
Interesting activity that I enjoy helps me.
New activity helps stimulate my brain and build new connections between my brain cells.
New activity can also build my social network.
4. Relaxation
It is important to practice techniques to help you relax
Controlled breathing is a useful relaxation technique
Progressive muscle relaxation is another useful relaxation technique
5. What to do when obsessions reappear
Obsessions or obsessive compulsive disorder may reappear and it is important to go back to the basics in dealing with them
Obsessions need not lead to compulsions
Just because you think something does not mean it is true or that you have to carry out the action.
6. You are in control
Remember you are in control of your mind.
Remember your thoughts are products of your mind and they are open to your control
I will tolerate the thoughts and the related anxiety that the thoughts and related actions have served as a distraction for.
I will not carry out compulsive behaviours simply to occupy myself.
In this way I will manage my anxiety
